It will take WAY less time to get 3 or 4 disposable gems to 80 than it will to get one to 110. This means your initial augs will probably be level 70 or 80. Hopefully you have a good speed-run set that lets you push through some lower level rifts (70 or so) in something more like 2 minutes. If you can't speed-run the rift in under 3 minutes, then it's time to do the aug and start another. As you augment your gear, you'll likely find that previous augments make it easier for you to push the gems higher, so your first round of augmenting will have the levels of the augments at different levels, but results in continual progression to higher rifts, and also giving you a clear "what's the next item to augment upgrade" path.Īgreeing with the other comments, use the rule of 3 to push your gems up. I recommend using a level of gem that is reasonably achievable for you without maxing your effort (ie max your gem according to the rift levels you've opened up a few levels below the highest you can run, whatever is most comfortable for you). Spreading your augments around can result in the same stat increase with easier progression and insurance that the opportunity to replace a single item isn't significantly less attractive because of augmentation loss. If you augment a single item vs two items with gems from half the level of the single item, the hit you take on replacing that item is more significant. Numbers like those will make a significant difference in your ability to push rifts and create higher level gems.Īlso consider what happens if you dump a bunch of effort and resource in pushing to the absolute max on your first item you augment, and the very next rift you get a primal for that slot. Say you augmented your entire gear set using 75 gems, that's going to be a 4875 stat increase. To run rifts where you can level a gem as high as 150, you are likely going to need your gear already augmented with gems at lower levels.
